The President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, paid tribute on Friday to the members of the UAE Armed Forces who lost their lives in the line of duty. On the eve of Commemoration Day, he emphasized that their sacrifices “will never be forgotten.”

Sheikh Mohamed described those who gave their lives in service to the nation as “heroic individuals” whose unwavering commitment to the homeland serves as an enduring inspiration. This statement was reported by the state news agency WAM.

The UAE observes Commemoration Day annually on November 30 to honor soldiers who gave their lives to safeguard the country.

“Commemoration Day is a distinguished national occasion where we pay homage to the heroic individuals who gave their lives to protect the UAE and its people,” the president said. “Their sacrifices are forever etched into the most cherished chapters of our nation’s history, standing as a perpetual source of inspiration for patriotism and unwavering dedication to the homeland.

“Our fallen heroes embody the noble spirit of the Emirati people and their steadfast willingness to answer the nation’s call, no matter the time or place.”

Sheikh Mohamed further emphasized the UAE’s commitment to supporting the families of those who died in service. “Today, we extend our deepest gratitude to the families of our heroes and reaffirm our steadfast commitment to supporting them,” he added. “The sacrifices of their loved ones will never be forgotten, as their actions will always epitomize selfless dedication to the progress and prosperity of our nation.”

The president lauded the “unparalleled courage and selflessness” of the Emiratis who laid down their lives to protect the nation’s security.

“The UAE will continue to uphold the values exemplified by our heroes’ sacrifices, who gave their lives for justice, peace, and the principles of humanity,” he affirmed. “Our enduring message remains one of stability, unity, and collaboration, devoted to the well-being and prosperity of all. May God honor our fallen heroes, keep the UAE strong and proud, and bring peace and stability to our region and the world.”

The late president Sheikh Khalifa established Commemoration Day in 2015. It was initially introduced to honor Salem Suhail bin Khamis, who died on November 30, 1971, while resisting Iranian forces on the island of Greater Tunb.
